Americans love to drive and this love affair that this country has with cars and driving them is something that every citizen of this country will have trouble letting go. And so the agency, in celebration of the Child Passenger Safety Week, is promoting the use of car seats, booster seats, and seat belts for kids to help keep them safe while you are out on those long journeys. That is why the NHTSA provided some useful tips about the use of these safety aids.

-          Make sure to use the right seat for your kid’s age and size.

-          Read and understand completely the instructions and labels that come with the car seat that you have bought for your children. Read the seat’s and the vehicle’s owner’s manual to ensure that you will be able to install these properly on your car,

-          Have your car seats checked by a certified child passenger safety technician by going to your local car seat inspection station,

-          Use the Lower Anchors and Tethers for Children (LATCH) restraint system or your vehicle’s seat belts to help install your child’s car seat. For forward-facing car seats, make sure to use the top tether.

-          Have your car seats registered online by going to SaferCar.gov to receive recall information for the particular model you are using, and

-          Set a good example to your kids by always wearing your seat belts.

Your children are the most important occupants of your vehicle and you wouldn’t want anything bad to happen to them. That is why you should make it a point to do your best to put their safety your top priority.
